How to Measure Your Window for a Custom Plexiglass AC Panel (Perfect for Portable AC Units)
Need a clean, modern solution for sealing your window when using a portable air conditioner? In this step-by-step video, we show you exactly how to measure your window frame — not the opening — to order a perfectly fitting custom plexiglass AC panel.
How to Measure Your Window for Your Custom Plexiglass Panel
To measure your window for a custom plexiglass AC panel, follow these steps:
For a casement window or a swing-out window- For casement or swing-out windows, the plexiglass panel will sit on your window frame and be held in place with the Velcro we provide. To make sure it fits properly, we may need to cut notches around any hardware so the panel can sit flat. Please allow for about 1/4" of extra space on each side of the notch. For example, if a piece of hardware at the bottom of the frame is 2" wide, the notch should be at least 2.5" wide to give it enough clearance.
If the notch is on the side, add that same 1/4" of extra space to the height instead. To measure the height of a bottom notch, measure from the bottom edge of the panel up to where the window opening starts. For side notches, measure from the edge of the panel to the window opening.
For a sliding window, you can add a partial plexiglass panel. In order to keep your plexiglass panel structurally sound, we recommend leaving a minimum of 4” on either side of the cut-out that your AC adapter will go into.
Open your sliding window to the size you’d like your plexiglass panel to be. Find the height by measuring from inside the top track to the window frame edge on the bottom. It’s important not to measure inside the track at the bottom of your piece since it will make your panel too large for your window.
